Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara kicks off their 2010-11 season with the West Coast premiere of Alan Brody’s touching and surprising new play, The Housewives of Mannheim. A memory play set in Brooklyn during the Second World War, Housewives had its world premiere last spring at the New Jersey Repertory Company, followed by a critically acclaimed New York off-Broadway run. The Westmont Theater Arts Department begins their fall season performing “The Servant of Two Masters,” a commedia dell’arte masterpiece. Oct. 22-23, 28 and 30 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets, $5 for students and $10 for adults, can be purchased by calling 565-7140. A street festival begins a half hour before the show on the patio outside the theater. “GLEE at The Luke.” A benefit event for the Marjorie Luke Theatre will take place Saturday, November 6 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre on the SBJHS campus. The event will feature the show’s Executive Producers, surprise GLEE cast members, and will be moderated by Santa Barbara resident Brad Hall formerly of SNL. On Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, the Santa Barbara Symphony presents Beethoven’s majestic Symphony No. 9, a masterpiece of the classical repertoire, and the first symphonic work to incorporate voices. This concert will use over 150 voices from the Santa Barbara Choral Society, Westmont College Choir and Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces The opening weekend will mark the beginning of the fifth season in the tenure of Music and Artistic Director, Nir Kabaretti, who will conduct six of the seven concerts of the Symphony’s subscription season.
For the first time ever, our sister station KDB 93.7 FM will broadcast the Saturday concert, starting at 7:50 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8 p.m. Tim Owens, Vice-President and General Mangaer, KDB and musician/scholar Ramon Araiza, who gives the Symphony’s popular “Music Behind the Music” pre-concert lectures, will host the live broadcast.
